Today, April 19th, 2025, we celebrate a true Rotary legend Paul Harris, on what would be his 157th birthday!

Born in Racine, Wisconsin in 1868, young Paul’s journey began with humble roots and a curious spirit. Raised by his grandparents in the quaint town of Wallingford, Vermont, he grew up with strong values and an adventurous heart.
Before founding Rotary, Paul didn’t just study law—he lived a rollercoaster of a life! He tried everything from being a cowboy and actor to a reporter, ranch hand, and even a night clerk. Penniless but passionate, he eventually landed in Chicago in 1896, set up a law practice, and began laying the groundwork for something extraordinary.
In 1905, with a few good friends and a bold idea, Paul Harris founded the Rotary Club of Chicago—planting the seed of what would grow into a global movement of fellowship and service. Just two years later, he was elected the club’s president. By 1910, Rotary had gone national, and Paul was at the helm as the first president of the National Association of Rotary Clubs.
Paul wasn’t just a leader—he was a dreamer, a doer, and a connector. His vision brought together professionals who believed in service above self and created a worldwide legacy of goodwill, leadership, and lifelong friendship.
Though he passed away in 1947, Paul’s legacy lives on in every Rotary project, every act of kindness, and every Rotarian around the globe.
So today, as we blow out 157 metaphorical candles, let’s raise a toast to the man who turned a simple idea into a worldwide force for good.
Happy Birthday, Paul Harris – your legacy continues to inspire us all! 🎂🥳🎉🎁
